Getting started

What is Snagster?

Snagster is a defect (snag) tracking app for builders, site supervisors and inspectors. You log defects on site with photos and a location, assign them to a contractor or someone on your team, and track each one through to an approved closeout.

How do I sign up?

Click “Get started free”, enter your name, email and organisation name, and you’re in. The person who signs up becomes the organisation’s admin and can invite everyone else.

Does it cost anything?

No. Snagster is free for every organisation while we’re in our testing phase, with no credit card needed. If that ever changes, every org admin gets at least 30 days’ notice by email first.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Snagster runs in any modern web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. On your phone you can add it to your home screen so it opens like a regular app.

How it works

How do I log a defect?

Open a project, tap “Log defect”, pick the location from your project’s list, add a description, priority and photos, and save. “Save and log another” keeps the location filled in so you can work through an area quickly.

How do locations work?

Each project has its own list of locations (e.g. Level 1 › Bathroom). When you create a project you choose a locations template: one of the standard Residential, Commercial or Industrial lists, a custom template you’ve built, or a copy of a previous project’s list. You can add new locations on the fly while logging defects.

How does a defect get closed out?

The assigned contractor or team member submits a closeout with photos and a comment. An admin or supervisor then reviews it and either approves it (the defect is marked Complete) or rejects it (it goes back to In Progress).

Can I split a big project into stages?

Yes. Any project can be split into stages such as Framing, Lockup and Finishes. Each stage has its own defect list and dashboard, and the whole project still rolls up into one overview.

Can I export a defect report?

Yes. Any filtered defect list can be exported to Excel or PDF, with up to three photos per defect included in the PDF.

What if I lose signal on site?

If you drop out of signal (say, in a basement or lift shaft) while logging a defect, it’s saved on your device and syncs automatically when you’re back online. You do need a connection to open the app in the first place.

Teams, contractors & access

What are the different user roles?

Admins set up projects, locations, contractors and the team. Supervisors work across the projects they’re given and can approve closeouts. Employees and contractors see only the defects assigned to them, and can comment and submit closeouts.

How do I add my team and contractors?

Admins create invite links from the Team page (for staff) and the Contractors page (for each contractor company). Share the link and people sign up straight into your organisation with the right role.

Can contractors see our other projects or defects?

No. A contractor only ever sees the defects assigned to their company. A contractor who works for several builders can join each one and switch between them on one login, and each builder’s data stays separate.

Account & data

I forgot my password. What do I do?

On the login page, enter your email and click “Forgot password?”. We’ll email you a link to set a new one.

Where is my data stored, and is it private?

Your organisation’s data is kept separate from every other organisation’s. Records are stored in Google Cloud’s Sydney region and photos on Cloudflare’s storage network. See our Privacy Policy for the details.

Can I get a copy of my data, or delete my account?

Yes. You can export your defects any time from within the app. To have your account or organisation deleted, email us and we’ll take care of it.
